Your pre-surgery appointments
Dr Vlad Illie will see you twice before proceeding with your surgical intervention. Additionally, an assessment will be conducted to evaluate your mental health well-being. For your first appointment, please provide a referral letter from your general practitioner or preferred medical practitioner.
During the consultation, Dr ILLIE will conduct a thorough assessment and discuss his recommended treatment plan, presenting various options tailored to your needs. He will outline all available options, including surgery with him, procedures by other practitioners, non-surgical treatments, or opting out of surgery. Dr ILLIE will provide detailed information about the surgery, anesthesia, pain management, location, and potential outcomes over time.
You will also view before-and-after photos from consenting patients, and you will be informed about the risks, complications, recovery process, activity limitations, and the potential need for revisional surgery.
After the first consultation, you will receive a comprehensive quote covering surgery fees, anesthesia, hospital fees, aftercare and any additional supplies. If the operation is covered by your healthcare fund, you will receive the item numbers for the procedure.
Preparing for surgery
Once you decide to proceed with the operation, our team will handle all the details of booking and planning your procedure. We will provide you with the necessary information on pre-operative requirements, your recovery, aftercare appointments, and post-operative instructions. This includes dietary restrictions, medication adjustments, and lifestyle considerations, along with advice and resources to help you mentally and emotionally prepare. Surgery day
Dr ILLIE prioritises patient safety and care, performing surgeries at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Bondi Junction Private Hospital or Gosford Private Hospital, all fully accredited private hospitals.
On the day of your surgery, you can expect a smooth check-in process at your hospital of choice. Our team will guide you through each step, from pre-operative preparations to what needs to be organised for your recovery.
Post-operative care
Depending on your procedure and preferences, you may stay for a few nights in the hospital or return home the same day. You will receive detailed care instructions to ensure a smooth and successful recovery. These guidelines will cover pain management strategies, wound care procedures, activity restrictions, and the schedule for follow-up appointments. Your recovery timeline will be clearly outlined, highlighting key milestones and expected progress at various stages. However, there is no charge for the follow-up consultations after surgery.

If your surgery is medically indicated rather than purely cosmetic, Medicare and some private health insurance providers may cover part of the costs. This coverage depends on the specific indications for your surgery, the type of surgery, and your level of health insurance. For certain procedures, such as airway surgery rhinoplasty, abdominoplasty, breast reduction, breast lift, breast reconstruction and post-weight loss surgery, rebate item numbers may apply, and your private health insurance should cover a portion of the total costs. You will need to discuss your coverage directly with your insurer after your consultation with Dr ILLIE. After your consultation, you will receive a total cost estimate with all the item numbers included.
